Carers get on their bikes for Tour de Yorkshire!
Our carers are being eco-friendly while they’re on the move
thanks to our new electric bicycles.
Christine Clapham and Cai Davey, who visit clients around
Harrogate and Knaresborough, have been avoiding the queues as they travel
between appointments on the eco-friendly bikes.
You might have seen them out and about on the roads already
in Knaresborough, whizzing up hills and nipping down lanes. The bikes have made
a real difference to their schedule – and best of all, Christine and Cai aren’t
even out of breath when they arrive!
Offering home care in Harrogate and Knaresborough means our
team members are always on the go. Being able to use this green alternative to
cars – with the added benefit of getting some fresh air – is a great solution.
It’s also particularly useful during those times when there
are big events on in Harrogate and the traffic is heavier than usual.
When the Tour de Yorkshire arrives at the end of this month,
there will be road closures and diversions to take into account in our schedule.
Although these are likely to be much less extensive than those that came with
the Tour de France in 2014, we still need to make extra plans to ensure our
clients continue to receive the care they need.
For our two cycling carers, life will be much simpler: they
will be able to keep to their schedule easily on their bikes, no matter how
long the queues!
Thanks to the success of the two bikes in Harrogate and
Knaresborough, we have invested in a third to be used by Harry Hardwick as he
travels around to visit our Settle clients.
We’ll be looking at more ways to cut our carbon footprint
over the coming months – watch this space!
